Throughout this semester we were asked to fill out a musical growth template, and learn multiple ukulele songs and musical notation. For this blog I will be talking about what I have accomplished and learned from this class.

From the midterm to now I have learned 2 new songs and increased my finger-picking skills as well as my musical theory knowledge. I fully understand music theory and how to compose my own music, as well as how to count beats and read notes. I believe that this skill came rather easy to me as I grew up studying piano. I think all children should learn music as it is so important for emotional growth and cognitive development, and my childhood knowledge really helped me academically within this course. I am really happy with my midterm and midterm quiz grade as it reflects how much time and effort I put into my ukulele practice. The website https://musicplayonline.com/ukulele/ is incredibly helpful and will be such a beneficial resource for my educational journey.

I learned the song “Don’t Worry be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin, “Three Little Birds” by Bob Dylan, “Someone To Lava” by Misc Cartoons, and “Riptide” by Vance Joy. I attempted to sing the songs “Don’t Worry Be Happy”, “Someone To Lava”, and “Riptide”, and found that it helped me to learn the chords and progressions. I also increased my chord knowledge and found several complex chords that I was not familiar with and practiced and eventually tried a bar chord as well. This progression really helped me strengthen my strumming practice and overall made playing the ukulele sound smoother and more professional. I attempted finger-picking and found it to be a lot easier than I originally believed, as it takes a lot less time to practice than most songs. Overall, I completed my goal template sheet and learned many useful skills that I can take with me into my future classroom.
