This video give a fun explanation of the element of shape and how to develop your artwork. A description of shape “when the beginning of a line connects with its own end or is intersected by another a shape is formed” is explained and it shows how artists use shape in their art.
‘The Dot’, By Peter Reynolds:
This is a great read-aloud book that shows children how everyone’s ability and creativity is different and that all ways of art should be practiced and fulfilled no matter how you feel about your art.

DOT ACTIVITY:
This activity was inspired by The Dot, by Peter Reynolds, and designed for our class to work with our art kits and to get comfortable using all of the materials and tools. We were told to test out as many different art mediums as we could using circles and dots.
Materials:
- Watercolor paper
- felt markers
- acrylic paint
- stickers
- 2 width sharpies
- crayons
- pastels
- straw
SHAPE FOAM STICKER PRINTS
This was a great and quick discovery activity to help us understand shape by using different sizes, textures, and gain an understanding of the materials.
Instructions: Here use half of a sheet of paper, folded it in half, and put our foam stickers on one side in a pattern arrangement (I chose to do the mountains and the moon). Then draw on the foam with markers and quickly fold the paper to transfer the wet marker onto the other side.

SHAPE INDIVIDUAL ART WORKS
This activity was intended for our class to use our understanding of shapes and our materials to create an image.
Instructions: Usings student’s understanding of organic shapes or geometric shapes, allow them to use their choice of materials to create an art piece.

Artists:
Roy Henry Vickers
Roy Henry Vickers is one of my favorite artists, he was born in 1947, In BC, and now owns and operates his own art gallery in Tofino. He is of First Nations ancestry many elements of the traditional art of the First Nations peoples, with organic shapes and rich colors to bring his artwork to life.
Yayoi Kusama
Yayoi Kusama was born in 1929 in Japan and makes sculptures, paintings, and installations. During her career she moved to New York where her career started and she began seeing the dots she pained on everything, so she decided to go back to Japan, and continues to work even with her health challenges. She is said to be one of the most influential artists from Japan and has created beautiful sculptures and paintings.
